Creating a home that feels warm and inviting for the holidays doesn’t require a full refresh. A few thoughtful updates — layered textures, soft light, and comforting details — can transform everyday living spaces into something truly special.
Pillows & Throws: The Easiest Refresh
One of the simplest ways to cozy up a living room is with pillows and throw blankets. I like to use a 22” and a 20” pillow on each end of a sofa for a relaxed, collected look. If your sofa is upholstered in a solid fabric, mixing prints and textures adds instant interest — for example, a rich velvet paired with a floral linen print.

Lighting is essential to creating a cozy atmosphere. I always prefer lamplight over overhead lighting, especially in living spaces. Never use cool-temperature bulbs — 2700 Kelvin is the sweet spot for warm, inviting light. For lamps, these Philips bulbs are my go-to

If a lamp is starting to feel tired or dated, try updating the lampshade. Often, a quality lamp simply needs a patterned or upgraded shade to feel completely new again.
